PSB Dance Academy Partners with Dunbarton High School
Dancers Supported by School and Family

By working together PSB Dance Academy and Dunbarton High school can accommodate students training for careers in dance with a commitment to a strong academic program. Beginning in September 2010 students aspiring towards professional ballet and dance careers can now attend Dunbarton High school. The partnership between Dunbarton High School and PSB Dance academy can provide a balanced life style for dancers to pursue excellence in their training in the afternoon and evening without sacrificing their academic goals. Training in ballet is rigorous and very competitive. This partnership enables ballet dancers to have not only a better training schedule but also a balance between their academics, their training and their lives. Quinte School of Ballet has offered a similar program in Belleville, Ontario and The School of Alberta Ballet offers combined academic/dance training. Now dancers in Durham and the GTA can have this balanced program, while staying at home with their own families within their own community.

Karen Davies Thomas has been providing classical ballet training at PSB for 20 years. Karen is a graduate of the National Ballet School, (TTP) and recently achieved her fellow with the Cecchetti Society of Ballet. She also holds an Honours Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from York University and is qualified to teach Modern Dance, National Dance and to enter students in both ballet methods--Cecchetti & Royal Academy of Dance. Among its finest dance teachers at PSB is the renowned Glenn Gilmour, former principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada and Stephanie Landry, also a former dancer with the National Ballet of Canada.

Dunbarton High School is located at 655 Sheppard Ave. (Kingston rd. at Whites Rd.) in Pickering. Dunbarton High school will be able to accommodate the schooling needs of aspiring dancers in grades 9-12 so that students can pursue excellence in training without sacrificing academic goals. With the support of Dunbarton High School dancers can prepare for life outside of dance.

Auditions for this new exciting program will be held Friday, September 10, 2010. For information about the program and auditions, call Karen Davies Thomas at contact info below. This program will be limited to 15-20 students initially and a strong background in ballet is recommended.
