In 1992, Karen Davies Thomas formed the Profile Dance Company. Profile is comprised of approximately 35 aspiring young dancers ranging in age from 8 to 18. Entrance into the company is by audition only and selection is based on talent, sense of commitment and sincere love for dance. Profile's dancers are enrolled in an intensive dance program and these dedicated students are provided choreographic experience and performance exposure.
Members of the Company perform throughout the community in local schools, retirement homes, shopping malls and festivals. Performance venues have included Arts Week, The Children's Aid Foundation Event, The Pickering Philharmonic Orchestra, Pickering ArtFest, The Toronto Granite Club, The Canadian National Exhibition Rising Star Competition, and The Muskoka Annual Ballet Gala held in Orillia. Every winter holiday season, Profile delights audiences with its splendid performance of excerpts from the Nutcracker, performed at the Betty Oliphant Theatre.
In the summers of 1996, 2003, 2008 and 2010, members of the Profile Dance Company spent 3 exciting weeks touring France! Dancers of the Company travelled to Marseilles, Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Avignon, Arles and Paris. These fortunate students studied dance and performed at "L'Académie Méditerranéenne de danse" in Marseille, France. As a result of this experience, two of the company members, Allison Gibbons and Erin Poole, returned to France to study dance full-time at "L'Académie Méditerranéenne de danse." Allison and Erin have completed their studies in France. In addition to their academic and performance pursuits, they are both now teaching at PSB. In July 2009, PSB hosted guest teachers and students from L'Académie Méditerranéenne de danse.
